CARICOM Interactive Marketplace & Suspension Procedure
To encourage trade between CARICOM member states it was decided that manufacturers within the CSME should first seek and purchase within the CSME.
The Suspension Mechanism was set in place to administratively handle this procedure and grant suspension to acquire from outside the CSME with exemption from the CET if the product is not available within the CSME.
The CARICOM INTERACTIVE MARKETPLACE & SUSPENSION PROCEDURE (CIMSUPRO) will create an online marketplace for CARICOM companies to post (not only) their raw materials and packaging but also their finished products
targeted at potential purchasers within the CSME.
This system requires the seller to maintain their “portfolio” online. The seller is responsible for up to date information of their products. A purchaser can be matched immediately with a regional supplier based on the access to information on regional suppliers that will now be available through the platform.
It is expected that Suspension requests will be made only for products where there is no match found on the CIMSUPRO Marketplace, or the available products on the Marketplace do not meet the applicable ‘technical’ requirements. The CIMSUPRO will facilitate an easier suspension procedure as submissions can be based on the information already in the system (The system maintains a trail of the transaction thus making it unnecessary to undertake a completely new filing). This should relieve the Secretariat of part of the time-consuming task of matching purchasers and active suppliers.
